The players of the game are leaders of countries.
They must use everything and anything in their power to stay there.
Military might, ingenuity, technology, science, Covert Ops, really big bombs, are just some of the many ways they wreak their havok.
It’s turn based.
It’s run through e-mail, until automated programs are written.
The World Sim is the unique invention of Dan Gammons. I first heard of it my freshman year. The idea was, Dan was God and everyone else was a mortal in a place of power. Everyday, they would turn in “orders” to God. These orders are what they wanted to do with their power, run a military, launch bombs, spy, trade, almost anything you can think of. And everyday, God would return with news. News was how you learn about what happens with your orders. Whether they went through or not, whether it was important or not, pretty much what ever God wanted…within reason. Everyone was having lots of fun playing because it was a new and different experience, winning wasn’t what everyone was going for, nor was it that clear how winner could be defined.
After a while, once I started doing World Sims, things began to go downhill. People lost track of reality, everyone was out to blow the crap out of everyone else, no one had any self restraint. And the epoch of the new World Sim began, everybody wanted to be a God. Space Sims, Old World Sims, Futuristic Sims, you name it someone Simmed it. And that takes us almost up-to-date….
Starting in Febuary 2002, I began the first sim I knew of in over a year. I spent over a month planning, designing, and writing. Content is the universe the game is set in. The more background, details, technology levels you can give your players, the better the game will be.
Well, my plan worked and with about a month of preperations I started the game with a whopping 17 players. Very soon it became apparent this was to many, but most didn’t participate fully anyway so we plodded on. The sim went on for almost 2 months before petering out due to lack of interest. Its my personal opinion that the players of the game must be motivated to play, and be on time and follow the rules, and don’t argue with the ‘God.’ If you don’t like the style of the ‘God’, wait for the next game, or find another religion.
After renewed interest in the game, throughout my school, i decide to create this website in hope to inspire other sims, and possible make thie game maybe even 1% of D&D in terms of popularity and playability.
If you think this game isn’t for you keep reading. You don’t know what a World Sim is until you’ve played it. All it takes, is a little creativity, a little thought, a little care, and a little time. Anyone who is trying to play has been successful, has had fun, and some have even exported their topsoil.
